Fordham University – USA

Fordham University, originally founded as St. John’s College by John Hughes, a coadjutor bishop of New York, began its journey under the care of the Society of Jesus shortly thereafter. The college’s first president, John McCloskey, who later became the first Catholic cardinal in the United States, set the tone for its early years. While initially under the auspices of the Jesuits, Fordham has evolved into an independent institution governed by a lay board of trustees since 1969. Despite this, Jesuit influence remains integral to its academic framework and ethos.
